Faculty of Medicine at Kabardino Balkarian State University: At a Glance
Kabardino Balkarian State University Faculty of Medicine is renowned worldwide for its excellence in faculty and research exposure. On the 1st of September, 1966; 100 young people started systematic studies at the Medical Faculty. When KBSU was founded, it had only 2 departments. One is anatomy and the other is Biology.
In 1968, the University allocated a separate 3-storied building for theoretical and biomedical departments. In the first 5 years, the biology and histology departments were only open to students. After that, normal anatomy and pathological studies have started. In 1977, 9 departments were started, including the faculty of medical science.
In 1972, the Faculty of Medicine at Kabardino Balkarian State University carried out the 1st issue; 115 graduates received medical diplomas. For 44 years (1966 – 2010) the Faculty has trained more than 5.5k physicians in 2 specialties, one in Medicine, and the other in Dentistry.
Currently, qualified doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals are headed by hospital departments, run by medical institutions, like multispecialty hospitals, dispensaries, and health care centers.
For 40 years, the medical faculty at Kabardino Balkarian State University has steadily expanded and strengthened, and in 1976 the department increased its intake of 150 students. In 1993, it opened a new specialty hospital.
Currently, the medical faculty at KBSU consists of 17 faculties, 3 are biological and medical, including normal and pathological physiology, pharmacology, and microbiology. It has 14 full-time 4 clinical departments, including children’s diseases, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and infectious diseases.
