Use the force to your advantage with the best Star Wars games for PS4 and PS5.
Video games based on Star Wars have been around almost as long as the movies. There have been many hits and misses over the years. They’ve been in every age of games and have been as high as a megajump from the Millennium Falcon and as low as the bottom of the many-toothed Sarlaac pit.
PS4 and PS5 gamers are in luck—there are a lot of great Star Wars games just waiting to be played. Any kind of Star Wars fan will love these games. You’ll be laser-blasting your way through a world far, far away faster than you can shake a lightsaber with two sides.
Star Wars Pinball VR
“Pinball?” you ask. “On my Star Wars list?” Please listen to us. Star Wars Pinball VR is a great way to see your favorite space series in a whole new way, especially when you play it in VR.
When it comes to pinball, Zen Studios is the best, and they bring all of their knowledge to the world of Star Wars. It’s a lot of fun to hit a bunch of tiny metal balls through different pinball tables that are based on some of the best Star Wars movies and TV shows.
In VR, it’s cool to see some of your favorite characters come to life at the table. A must-have for people who like pinball.
Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series
We promise this is the last VR game on this list. Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series is a surprisingly rich Star Wars experience that is wrapped up in VR. The game has three stories, and in each one you play as a pirate with a sword who goes up against the Galaxy’s scariest bad guy.
Even though Vader Immortal is very short and leaves a lot to be desired, it is one of the few games that really captures what it’s like to be a Jedi. You will laugh out loud as you easily and hilariously push a Stormtrooper out of the way and fight Vader with your blade.
Star Wars Episode I Racer
The next two games on our list are not originals for PS4 or PS5, they are ports. Now don’t think that means we ran out of good ideas. It’s just a sign of how great they are and how well they work on better gear. (We thought about adding a few more ports, like Republic Commando, but their remasters aren’t quite as good.)
Oh well! Star Wars Episode I Racer is a great game for people who saw The Phantom Menace and either really liked it or thought the podracing part was one of its best parts. A lot of characters and skill that fit the setting will make you feel like you’re right there, racing for your life. If you liked Racer, you should play Racer Revenge, which is the follow up and is also available on PS4. We think it’s not quite as charming as the first one, but it’s almost as good. It also brings some fun things to the table.
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Why are all of these criminals who are sensitive to the Force suddenly becoming Jedi? In Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, you play as Kyle Katarn as he gives up his old life as an assassin and starts living the exciting and difficult life of a new Jedi.
There are many people who say Jedi Academy did a better job, but we think Outcast has better level design, tougher tasks, a better story, and more memorable characters. As always, the force skills are great, and fighting with a sword is incredibly rewarding and quick. Even though the PS4 version doesn’t have the great online of the original, this is still a game that any true Star Wars fan shouldn’t miss.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
As far as Lego Star Wars games go, none feel as full and full of material as Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The Skywalker Saga has all the famous characters from the series in brightly colored, blocky Lego form. It has all nine of the main movies.
There is a lot of new content and features in 8 Ball Pool that bring the series into the next generation. The games’ famous tongue-in-cheek humor is also back, which is a nice surprise. There are now more open-world areas to explore and get lost in, great space levels where you can take control of the nearest spaceship, and much better controls for using lightsabers and blasters in battle.
This Lego Star Wars game has the biggest cast of all the Lego Star Wars games, and more can be added with DLC.
Star Wars Battlefront 2
While the original Star Wars Battlefront was embarrassingly bad at launch and full of pointless loot boxes, Dice’s sequel slowly became the best Star Wars action game ever.
Like the old Battlefront games, you’ll be able to shoot things from a third-person perspective and fight in big battles in some of the most famous places in the whole series. You can try your hand at different classes, drive both land and space vehicles, and take control of some of the series’ most beloved heroes and foes.
Over the years, many changes were made and new modes, classes, and maps were added. This makes it one of the best ways to play the whole story.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
It takes a lot of ideas from Metroidvanias and Souls-like games, especially the challenging skills-based fighting. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a real single-player adventure game, which was a surprise from EA and Respawn.
You play as Cal Kestis, who is one of the last Jedi left alive after Order 66. He is trying to fight the Empire’s bad forces and connect with the force again. A huge adventure that takes place across a galaxy, with great sword action, tough boss fights, a great sense of growth and exploration, and a great Star Wars story at its core.
Star Wars: Squadrons
The news of Star Wars: Squadrons in 2020 seemed to come out of nowhere. There have been a lot of great Star Wars starfighter games over the years, so Squadrons came out at a time when the genre wasn’t getting enough attention.
It has all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a high-end EA game, like quick dogfighting controls, picture-perfect graphics, and a fun competitive multiplayer mode. Another great thing about it is that it’s one of the best and most well-made starfighter sims ever, and it looks amazing in VR too.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
The exciting follow-up to Fallen Order from Respawn in 2023 is everything a follow-up should be. It’s better, bigger, and more powerful than a “setup act,” and it gets to the heart of its many interesting characters in a way that a “setup act” could not. It’s a lot of trouble for Cal in this one. We’d even go so far as to say that it’s like A New Hope meets Empire Strikes Back. Also, please choose the PS5 version. One big problem with Survivor is that it doesn’t run very well, and as you might expect, it runs better on newer hardware.
There are some great Star Wars games on PS4 and PS5, but Jedi: Survivor is still our favorite, even though it has some speed issues. We won’t see the next (and maybe last) one of Cal Kestis’ epic space adventures for a few years, but that gives us plenty of time to watch this again to get ready.
