When we think of the best and worst characters in Call of Duty’s game mode, from Modern Warfare to Infinite Warfare, we remember them.
Call of Duty is a series of games that cover many different wars, from World War II to the far future. As you read each new post, you’ll meet a new group of people. Some of them will stick out more than others.
Players of the Call of Duty series love a group of characters, each for their own special reason, even though the games are more about action than personalities. These are the best ones.
Sgt. Roebuck
Game | World At War |
---|---|
Voiced By | Kiefer Sutherland |
In the Call of Duty games, you’ll often see an old man yelling orders at you. Of all the loud bosses you have, Roebuck from World at War is one of the best. As a leader, he has both the charm and power that are needed. He also knows how to use words well.
During the game, the man gives a number of great talks. Most of them happen during mission meetings, where he does a great job of getting you excited about the job and describing it. This guy is the one you will follow into the battles.
Nikolai (Reboot)
Games | Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, And Modern Warfare 3 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Stefan Kapicic |
Nikolai is one of the most useful people on your team in the reboot series, even though you don’t see him fight very often. He gets you from one place to another most of the time, so yeah. Besides that, he sometimes gives tools. You’d likely be dead for a long time without him.
There’s no doubt that you would enjoy the show less because Nikolai is one of the funnier characters. Because of this, he often adds a lot of fun to the scenes he’s in.
Yuri (Original)
Games | Modern Warfare 2 (Remastered Only) And Modern Warfare 3 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Tony Curran |
A lot of the people in the series desert you and join the bad guys in the story. But Yuri is one of the few people who does the opposite. He used to be proud to be a Russian Ultranationalist and be friends with Vladimir Makarov.
Still, some of the bad things the group does make Yuri want to betray his friends. After that, Makarov leaves him to die. At this point, he joins the followers and helps people like Price and Soap. He isn’t always the most moral main character in the story. But the fact that his connection with Makarov and his home country is confusing makes him an interesting figure.
MacMillan (Original)
Games | Modern Warfare And Modern Warfare 3 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Zach Hanks (MW) And Tony Curran (MW3) |
In all of the Modern Warfare games, John Price is a great leader and guide for the younger main characters. But he was a kid himself once upon a time. He learned from MacMillan, who was his senior officer, in a couple of tasks set in the past.
It only took these two famous Call of Duty tasks for MacMillan to become a fan favorite. He is this way because he is so smart and generally strong. These qualities are shown by him not only in the first Modern Warfare game, but also in Modern Warfare 3 as Baseplate.
Gary “Roach” Sanderson
Game | Modern Warfare 2 |
---|---|
Voiced By | N/A |
You’ll play as Gary Sanderson for most of Modern Warfare 2, the main character. You’ll go on many tasks with characters like Soap MacTavish and Ghost. Sanderson has been one of the most popular possible characters in the series even though they never talk.
Sanderson’s job as part of Task Force 141 was to find and dispose of Makarov, who is the main bad guy in the Modern Warfare games. His death at the hands of General Shepherd is still one of the most shocking events in the series’ history. Both Sanderson and Ghost were burned alive by Shepherd.
Jason Hudson
Games | Black Ops, Black Ops 2, Black Ops 4, And Black Ops Cold War |
---|---|
Voiced By | Ed Harris (BO), Michael Keaton (B02), Edward Bosco (BO4), And Piotr Michael (BO: Cold War) |
Hudson is always in the Black Ops games. He first appears in the first game as Alex Mason’s tough-talking C.I.A. manager. Famous for saying “The numbers Mason, what do they mean!”
Hudson goes on a number of tasks with you in Black Ops, and in Black Ops: Cold War, he is in charge of Operation Greenlight, the failsafe plan that put nuclear weapons in major European towns. In Black Ops 2, he gave up his life so that Woods and David Mason could live. In a terrifying scene, Raul Menendez shoots out his legs and then cuts his throat.
Farah Ahmed Karim
Games | Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare 2 (2022), And Modern Warfare 3 (2023) |
---|---|
Voiced By | Claudia Doumit |
When Farah was added to the 2019 remake of Modern Warfare, she quickly became one of the most interesting characters in the new series. She is the Leading Commander of the Urzikstan Liberation Force and works with Task Force 141 members to free her country from Roman Barkov.
She is in charge of eliminating Barkov at the end of the game and helping to destroy his gas plant. Then she comes back in Modern Warfare 2, but in a smaller part. She works with Captain Price and his team again.
Ronald “Red” Daniels
Game | WW2 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Brett Zimmerman |
Ernest Ronald Daniels is the main character in Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty: WWII. He is in the US Army’s 16th Infantry Regiment and helps free Europe. Some people didn’t like WW2, but the mission was one of the best in the series, and Red became a pretty well-known figure.
Red’s past and family life before the war are explored more than most of the other characters in Call of Duty. This helps to make him more interesting and raises the stakes during the more dangerous parts of the game. You should give yourself some credit for writing such a well-rounded figure.
Frank Woods
Games | Black Ops, Black Ops 2, And Black Ops: Cold War |
---|---|
Voiced By | James C. Burns (BO, BO2) And Damon Victor Allen (BO: Cold War) |
The Master Sergeant Frank Woods is one of the most interesting characters in the Call of Duty Black Ops series. He has been a supporting character in three Black Ops games and works with his longtime friend Alex Mason both on and off the battlefield. A lot of people like him because he’s tough and funny, which is why people say things like “I’m a goddamn onion, Mason.”
He is one of the main characters in Black Ops 2, and after Mason saved him in the beginning of the game, he tells the story of several campaign tasks. He is a figure who knows how to handle himself and get things done. Most Call of Duty players really like him.
Raul Menendez
Game | Black Ops 2 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Kamar de los Reyes |
One of the best bad guys in the series is Raul Menendez. Instead of being a one-dimensional bad guy like many others, Menendez is a complex character with a strong reason for doing the crazy things he does. He’s also one of the few bad guys in the game whose plans might have worked out, based on how you finish Black Ops 2.
Some people really like him, and it’s because he’s a great character for the Black Ops 2 main characters to work against, even though he doesn’t have bad intentions. One of the best missions in the series is in Black Ops 2, and Menendez is a big reason for that.
Vladimir Makarov (Original)
Games | Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, And Modern Warfare 3 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Roman Varshavsky |
Fans of the Call of Duty series hate Makarov so much that he is arguably the most remembered bad guy in the series. That was the main point of his part.
Makarov, unlike some of the other bad guys in the series, has no good traits. He is all about chaos and making as much of it as possible without feeling bad about what he does.
The most famous scene he was in was the task of eliminating everyone at the airport in Modern Warfare 2, which is still the most controversial Call of Duty level ever.
Alex Mason
Games | Black Ops, Black Ops 2, And Black Ops: Cold War |
---|---|
Voiced By | Sam Worthington (BO And BO2) And Chris Payne Gilbert (BO: Cold War) |
People who love the Black Ops series really like Alex Mason because he has one of the most interesting stories in Call of Duty history.
Everyone will remember the standard way the game starts with the questioning, which makes players nervous right away and makes them question everything that happens afterward. In later games, like Flappy Bird and Cold War, he played roles that made him even more popular with fans.
David Mason
Game | Black Ops 2 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Rich McDonald |
David Mason, Alex Mason’s son, is another good example of a main character in Call of Duty. His story in Black Ops 2 deals with a lot of different topics, and the ending scene where he reunites with his father is very moving.
He’s a real hero in every way, and unlike a lot of other characters in Call of Duty, he’s also funny. Even though he’s not a completely funny character, the few times he does something funny make the game more fun.
General Shepherd (Original)
Game | Modern Warfare 2 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Lance Henriksen |
Even in the world of Call of Duty, not every great character has to be a hero. General Shepherd is a great example of this. Fans love him because he is a bad guy, not because he is good.
For almost the whole of Modern Warfare 2, you think Shepherd is on your side until it turns out that he’s actually the main bad guy and the one who started the world war between the American and Russian forces. A memorable scene in the series is the final fight in the desert. Everyone who plays through it will remember it for a long time.
Victor Reznov
Games | World at War And Black Ops |
---|---|
Voiced By | Gary Oldman |
Victor Reznov was a kind person who always did what was best for the people around him. The bonds he has with Dimitri Petrenko and Alex Mason are important parts of the first two Black Ops games. Reznov is also a key part of making the link between World at War and the Black Ops games.
Reznov is a real boss, and he and Mason visit many war zones together in the game, making some of the most fun tasks to play. Besides that, the famous Gary Oldman did his voice, which helped make it an amazing and unique sound that no one will soon forget.
Gaz (Reboot)
Games | Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare 2 (2022), And Modern Warfare 3 (2023) |
---|---|
Voiced By | Elliot Knight |
The Gaz in the first Modern Warfare game is not at all like the Gaz in the new series. The second figure is more important because he plays a bigger part in the story as a whole.
For starts, he’s not just one of the team; you can play as him in both of the new Modern Warfare games. Aside from that, he shows a more complex personality. He’s a loyal soldier who looks up to his superiors, but he’s not a yes-man. He will say what he thinks if he doesn’t agree with an order or deed. One thing that makes him likeable is that he only wants to do what’s right.
Captain John Price (Original)
Games | Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, And Modern Warfare 3 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Billy Murray |
Captain Price was a real leader among men and never showed fear. He is likely the most famous figure in the Call of Duty series. He is tough but honest, and he says a lot of things that most Call of Duty fans can remember.
People loved him so much because of things like his classic cigar and funny comments. Price even became the face of the series for a short time, mostly because most players associated Call of Duty with his famous beard.
Ghost (Original And Reboot)
Games | Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 2 (2022), And Modern Warfare 3 (2023) |
---|---|
Voice By | Craig Fairbrass (Original) And Samuel Roukin (Reboot) |
Fans of Call of Duty also felt a connection to Ghost, especially after learning about his past life and the terrible things he had to go through, like being tortured and having his family destroyed.
Shepherd saves him and takes him under his wing, but in one of the saddest deaths in video game history, Shepherd fails him again. One of the most-loved figures in the series, he only showed up in one game for a long time. His short time in the rebooted version of Modern Warfare 2 doesn’t take away from his reputation.
Captain “Soap” MacTavish (Original)
Games | Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, And Modern Warfare 3 |
---|---|
Voiced By | Kevin McKidd |
To most players, Captain MacTavish, who goes by the name “Soap,” was the best character in Call of Duty history (up to that point). He is now one of the most beloved characters in all of video games.
Fans got to spend a lot of time with the character in all three of the original Modern Warfare games. That’s why his death was so shocking, especially since most fans didn’t think Call of Duty had the guts to finish off such a well-known character. Captain Price usually has a tough exterior, so seeing him cry over Soap’s body is a powerful scene that solidifies his place as one of video games’ most famous characters.
