There is a distinct characteristic that makes a star feel like a star. It can either be an acting talent or even a fascinating physique. Rarely, it can even be an attire that would make them memorable too. Some of those stars include our beloved anti-hero, Ryan Gosling. Oh Man, who can forget about that awesome Drive Jacket that he wore during the movie ?
Drive is actually the story of an anti-hero making love to the wife of a criminal. This is where the real action begins when the mob chases this bad boy throughout the highway. Pretty cool, huh? Ryan Gosling would have felt totally dull if he was not wearing that Drive Jacket.

Erin Benach was responsible for the design of the Drive Jacket while keeping in mind the concept of ‘A handsome anti-hero with a mysterious personality’. So, this is where things get interesting when it is seen that over 12 designs were made until culminating in this one. 12 Designs rejected? Oh man, I’m dying here.
The concept here was simple of a driver having a mysterious personality while being somewhat attractive at the same time. So, the final design here is a bomber jacket that has the color palette of white and yellow. Secondly, it features the leather fabric along with the zipper closure. Not to mention, that scorpion logo on the back to complete the whole package.
Symbol
The Drive Jacket here is not just the fact that Ryan Gosling is, but also describes the Driver’s personality. Which is, an anti-hero taking out anyone that gets in the way of his entailing romance. Well, it was actually an unintentional one but romance nonetheless. Secondly, the best part of the movie is that Gosling was brimming with courage and badassery at the same time.
The attire itself is a symbol of a person who is relentless and does not care who is standing in his way. He Only cares about the job at hand and no one can stop him. Even the big guns from the big guys are not enough to take down this mountain. Actually, a really cute mountain because he was really cute in the movie. Yeah, chicks dig the Driver.
A Vintage Vibe
Before we get any closer to the end, we should probably know that the Drive Jacket was inspired by the 1980’s pop culture. You remember when I said that it was inspired by several figures from pop culture and this is one of them. The bomber jackets were starting to take the driver’s seat during the 80s. So, this would serve as the base of the design.
A video of a band singing the song ‘Scorpion’ is what brought out the idea for the logo on the back. So, the whole logo deal comes from this video of the band. Meanwhile, the design is based on the movie too that featured actors donning the leatherwear. Some good examples would be that of Arnold Schwarzeneger wearing leather clothing along with that of Vin Diesel wearing that racer style attire.
Enhancing The Cinematic Moments:
If any scene in the movie looked great without Ryan Gosling, then the answer is no. That awesome action from Gosling coupled with that elegant Drive Jacket is something that would elevate anything. The looks and the attire of Gosling is just one awesome joy to behold in the movie.
The moments like that whole car chase and don’t forget about that rolling romance between the couple here. Moments like these could not get even brighter if you exclude Ryan Gosling and Drive Jacket from the list. That would be totally odd. Trust me, if someone does that then the crowd would never forgive them.
Influence on Pop Culture and Fashion
You have heard about the famous Pop Culture figures like Dwayne Johnson and of course the recent one, Taylor Swift. However, they are nothing compared to such a darling performance in the movie ‘Drive’. In some cases, nothing compared to that jacket that made the fashion scene even more interesting.
Most people would just want to be like the Driver from the movie as more and more young folks are now donning the same style. We saw the interview of a guy from the UK, who was also a big fan of Gosling Himself. He did say that this was something that a person would want to be like. Like they say, a chocolaty romantic badass like Ryan Gosling.
Character Development:
Some movies would feel really stale if there is no character development. Drive is one of those examples, where a loner becomes a lover and eventually a protector. Talk about some development here. The Drive Jacket was not just a testament to one of Gosling’s best works, but also the best works in terms of character development.
You move forward in your life and experience things and then your character develops into something else. That is also the case for the driver, who also changes into the man that he thought would never be in the first place.
